For me, the quote by Bill Marklein captures it, “culture is how employees’ hearts and stomachs feel about Monday morning on Sunday night.”
Feeling anxious? It probably reflects the culture of your workplace and highlights the importance of creating a positive culture that fosters a sense of belonging and purpose for everyone.
When I begin workshops, I can pick up on culture right away.
A positive workplace culture is one where employees feel motivated, engaged, and enthusiastic about their work and the people around them. When employees feel good about those things they are more likely to be productive, creative, and committed to their work.
We talk about work culture all the time, but we don’t talk enough about the importance of the ability of employees to both be able to understand and buy into your company’s values and mission. This will provide a clear direction and purpose for your employees to align themselves with. Communicating these values to your employees regularly is key to ensuring that they understand and embrace them, but also, they need the freedom to understand how they fit into the overall plans.
It’s also essential to prioritize employee well-being. What is work-life balance? We are all still figuring it out, but offering opportunities for professional growth, personal growth, and ensuring that employees feel valued and respected can all contribute to a positive culture.
Finally and perhaps most important but least considered, fostering a sense of community and collaboration is imperative. We are wired to connect, and finding ways to encourage teamwork and open communication among employees can create a supportive and inclusive work environment that employees look forward to being a part of.
Creating a positive culture within your organization is essential for employee well-being and business success. By prioritizing employee well-being, defining company values, and fostering collaboration and community, you can create an environment and culture that employees look forward to being a part of, even on Sunday nights.
